In 2024, Italy recorded some 1,365 M&A transactions, up +13% in volume on 2023, for a total value close to €64 billion, +9% year-on-year. Private equity funds accounted for 44% of transactions, accentuating their role above all in the mid-market segment.

Main trends in the Spanish M&A market in 2025

In Q1 2025, deal volume dropped by 20-60% depending on the source: only 22 deals vs. 54 in 2024 in Spain, and a 60% drop in value compared to Q1 2024. Up to the end of April, there were around 931 deals (€22.8 billion), down 20% in number and 18% in value compared to 2024.
